I know it's been a while, but I've been in hospital with a tiny baby who poops from his stomach, more on that later.
I arrived back from Singapore in fashion, with not one but TWO hairs in my disgusting China Air dinner. Min Lian's heart surgery was succesful (all the blue from her lips and mouth are gone!) but she had some complications later when her lungs filled up with liquid. It's not as terrible as it sounds, a type of pnemonia I guess. I didn't get to take her back to Beijing, but I think that's a good thing. She is totally in love with the family she's staying with, and they are head over heels in love with her! Happiness abound!

Here she is enjoying some soup. She loves getting pictures taken of her, and taking pictures of people. Here is her picture of me:

More Soup

When I got back to Beijing, 14 girls came down from the states on a mission trip. We were invited to a mini party in the apartment upstairs. Me and Rose (a nurse here) decided to bring along Justin and Benjamin as our totally hot dates.

Here is Rose hogging them. Justin is the one on the right and Benjamin the one on the left.
Justin got really excited and asked me to take more pictures of him. I told him to pose, and he did this:

Apparently he really likes people taking pictures of him pretending to sleep.
We brought them back down to their playroom after an hour to hang with them and the other kids.

This is Gabriel.

This is Anna! I really hope she gets adopted by someone overseas. Her legs are paralyzed and China doesnt exactly cater to the wheelchair bound.
Later on I went to play with Chun. I realize that the hospital videos and pictures make her look really morose all the time, but it couldn't be further from the truth. All this kid does is smile and laugh, as this video shows, until she gets bored and walks away.
Chun is a wonderful weirdo. Her Ayi started to speak to her in Chinese. "Chun, show me your mouth". Chun paused for a moment then put her hands on her mouth. "Good! Now you're nose, show me your nose." Less of a pause this time as she grabbed her nose. "Good good! Now your eyes Chun!" Immediately she closed her eyes and stuck two fingers on them, then she proceeded to spin around in a circle yelling "Eeeeee!" and smiling.
I haven't heard this kid talk, ever, which is unusual for a two year old, but not unusual for a child in an orphanage. She babbles a lot, but never says real words. A few days ago while I was bouncing her on my lap, she turned and blurted out "Hi!", then crawled down to find a toy.
UPDATE: Today on a dolphin swing (more on that later) she said "Yeah!"
Tomorrow me and her go to the Zoo.
Chun + Pandas = effin sweet
UPDATE: Me and her went to the Zoo, and McDonalds, I'll show you all of that in a "Chun only - Goodbye China" post
Yesterday I got to take her on a walk, and today I got her all to myself on the playground outside. I have tons of pics and videos that I'll put on here next post.
After only a few days of being back from Singapore I learned that a baby was sick and had to accompany him from the hospital.

Here is little Sheng Li in his crib. Sheng Li was born with his anus on the outside of his body. They told me that he was scheduled for surgery on July 1st, but that he had developed a fever. The surgeons would be unable to operate if his fever persisted and he couldn't wait any longer to have the surgery.
I stayed in the hospital room for LITERALLY seven days. I was given 10 minutes to go outside maybe three times. In those ten minutes I bought season four of house and EVERY SEASON OF THE OFFICE. EVERY SINGLE ONE. ALL OF IT.
Oh and Little Miss Sunshine (awesome movie) Be Kind Rewind (surprisngly absolutely craptastic) and Hairspray (just, don't even ask).
Oh! And a Futurama movie, it wasn't half bad.
Needless to say, I got a bit of cabin fever:
This one is the less crazier of the two. After he wouldn't stop crying I phoned my mom for advice, she said to sing to him and I suddenly realized that I know ABSOLUTELY NO KIDS SONGS! So I singed him the only songs I knew, bonus points if you know what I'm singing in this video (note: bonus points can later be exchanged for high fives and/or a jubilant "Woo!")
Speaking of crazy. I got to go on another walk while he was in surgery and happened upon this park full of "work out" machines for old people, ping pong tables, and whatever the fuck this is:
When I went to the zoo, I saw a little boy in a coin operated ride machine. I watched him bob up and down in a colourful army plane (complete with a turret loaded on top) to the MIDI tune of "We wish you a Merry Christmas (and a Happy New Year)".
I didn't know what to say about the previous video, but that story seems somehow related.

Here is an apartment complex in the area. Notice how even the top floor's windows are caged, and yet the door to the complex was wiiiide open.

Here is another view of the same building where we can see the bikes in front. NONE of them are locked (This is DOWNTOWN Beijing by the way) no one locks their bike. I guess it's like shoes to them, who would steal someones shoes?

A computer reapir shop with only one computer in it.

This is at the back of a supermarket type shop. Just thought it was cool.
Well, Sheng Li's surgery was a success and he showed it by barfing and pooping all over every item of clothing I had. I named him Barfy because I figured poopy was to mean, what with him laying around with a colostomy bag and all.
Here are some really dumb pictures I took of him because I was bored.

I can't seem to find a picture of it, but his default face is a cat face.
Like this: :3
When I got back I decided to see some more landmarks before I left.

SUMMER PALACE
Basically, when the emperor got tired of being emperor him and his buds would venture down to his sweet ass cottage and throw a kegger.
This place is nothing short of completely over the top.

This boat always makes me laugh.
Yes I am easily amused.
Yes I enjoy Pokelore.
Yes, if you ask I will preform the Pokerap.

A man writing something on the street.
People working out to awesome dance music
Apparently this happens often. People just flock to parks and throw down some coreographed dance moves.

We took this fancy boat back to the entrance. It took about five minutes, AND I didn't get sick. Which leads me to believe that I will not get sick on my two day trip over the ocean.
Tonight my heart breaks and I leave for Shanghai.
I can't talk about it or I'll feel terrible.
Here's a little tidbit from the next post:
p.s. I sponsored Chun and Sheng Li and was able to give them english names. Chun is now Olivia and it's way more fun to convince you all that I actually named Barfy as such than tell you what I actually named him

I'm glad you're doing - did well? I know this is a ridiculously late reply. >.< Sorry.
I'm still here though! ^___^ Awww, all the kids are so adorable! Haha, I love the kid who likes to have his picture taken sleeping, thats so cute!
Aww, Sheng Li is so freakin adorable.
You sang to him Zelda songs? And Epona's song nonetheless. (Woo, bonus points for Jennnnnniiiiie)
You couldn't go with something like, mary had a little lamb? lol, the alphabet? Twinkle twinkle little star? :P But if you had, you wouldn't be Gaby. :P Hehehe.
FYI, that ride. Creepy! I dunno why, it just really creeped me out. x_x
Ewww, the bad side to babies. What goes in, always comes out in as many different ways as possible, just to make it so much more fun for us!
That's a freakin nice summer palace. Bring one home for me! :P
Wow... synchronized random dancing people in the middle of the street... creepy... and there's so many of them. Can you actually call that a work out? I think the one thing they're exercising are their ankles. :P
Aww, I'm so glad that you sponsored the kids. Now they have a story and can grow up saying that they have English names and this really cool person in Canada that they'll remember for the rest of their lives. Given that they're not too young to forget it all later. :P
I wanna know Barfy's real name!! ME ME ME!
It's sad that you're leaving... left... there but YAY JAPAN TIME WOOT WOOT! *Dances* ...
Hope to see more posts! *demands more posts!*
